About Inseto

Inseto supplies materials, equipment, and services to the advanced electronics sector, supporting customers across a range of specialist applications. As customer expectations continued to evolve, the organisation sought to build on its long-standing ISO 9001 certification which it has held since 2005 to demonstrate the continued strength of its management system and its commitment to quality.

Working with Smart Quality Services (SQS) and ISOQAR, Inseto refined its existing quality management system, transitioned to a digital integrated management system, and achieved certification to both ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Building on Strong Foundations

Inseto originally adopted ISO 9001in response to customer requirements. While the organisation already operated with well-established processes, documentation and traceability systems, certification provided independent verification of its commitment to quality, consistency, and continuous improvement.

As the business evolved, Inseto identified an opportunity to modernise its quality management system and improve the way processes and records were managed. Working with SQS, the company transitioned its existing ISO 9001 system to a digital platform, improving accessibility, document control, and visibility across the organisation.

Following implementation, ISOQAR carried out the certification assessment, resulting in Inseto successfully achieving ISO 9001 recertification and continuing to demonstrate compliance with this internationally recognised standard.

Looking Beyond Quality Management

Building on the success of its digital quality management system, Inseto recognised an opportunity to strengthen its environmental performance and integrate this within its wider management framework.

Working alongside SQS, the company implemented ISO 14001 and incorporated the necessary environmental processes, objectives, and controls into its digital management system. This created a single integrated platform for managing both quality and environmental performance, providing a more joined up approach to governance, compliance, and continual improvement across the business.

This approach enabled Inseto to achieve ISO 14001 certification while further enhancing the effectiveness and accessibility of its management systems.

Embedding Environmental Management

The decision to implement ISO 14001 was influenced by both customer expectations and employee interest in environmental responsibility.

Inseto wanted to demonstrate that environmental impacts were being actively considered and managed throughout the business. While identifying meaningful environmental objectives can be more challenging for organisations outside of manufacturing, ISO 14001 provided a structured framework for setting targets, monitoring performance, and identifying opportunities for improvement.

Following implementation and certification by ISOQAR, environmental management became increasingly embedded within the organisation's operations and wider business objectives.

Turning Objectives into Action

Since introducing ISO 14001, Inseto has implemented a number of initiatives aimed at reducing its environmental impact.

One notable example was the acceleration of a planned solar panel installation project. Originally scheduled as a longer-term initiative, the project was brought forward as the organisation strengthened its focus on environmental improvement.

Additional initiatives have also been introduced across the business, contributing to a reduction in operational environmental impact and reinforcing the organisation's commitment to sustainability.

The focus on environmental management has generated positive engagement internally, while also providing customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders with greater visibility of Inseto's environmental objectives.

Creating a Culture of Continual Improvement

Alongside its quality and environmental objectives, Inseto has continued to strengthen its approach to continual improvement.

A key business objective has been reducing both the occurrence and cost of non-conformances across the organisation. To support this, the business introduced an enhanced improvement logging process as part of its integrated management system.

The system provides a structured mechanism for employees to submit ideas and opportunities for improvement, with suggestions reviewed during management meetings and considered as part of ongoing business planning and decision-making.

This approach has helped increase employee involvement in improvement activities while providing greater visibility of opportunities to improve performance across the business.

Results

Achieving ISO 9001 has strengthened Inseto's ability to demonstrate its quality management practices to customers and other stakeholders. Certification has helped reinforce confidence in the organisation's processes, while also reducing the administrative burden associated with supplier approval activities. In many cases, certification provides independent evidence of the systems already in place, reducing the need for extensive customer questionnaires.

The introduction of ISO 14001 has enabled Inseto to take a more structured approach to environmental management and has provided a framework for setting objectives, measuring performance and driving continual improvement. This has supported the delivery of environmental initiatives across the organisation and strengthened engagement around sustainability.

The move to a digital integrated management system has brought quality and environmental management together within a single framework, making processes and documentation more accessible across the business. Combined with a stronger focus on employee-led improvement, the system continues to support Inseto's commitment to quality, environmental responsibility, and continual improvement.

"ISO 9001 strengthened our credibility in the marketplace and reinforced our professional reputation with customers. Achieving ISO 14001 has also helped demonstrate our commitment to reducing environmental impact, which is important to both our customers and employees."

Moving to a new digital management system could have been quite disruptive, but the team at Smart Quality Services made the process smooth and straightforward. They listened to what we needed, understood how we work, and helped us create a system that is practical, easy to use and well suited to our business."
